Love like a tree
My love is like a tree
With many branches
And many leaves
It'll give you shelter
And give you shade
It'll invite the birds to sing for you
And colour the ground in the fall
You can carve our names on its bark
You can lean on it as you ponder
(what on earth I am talking about)
But abandon or neglect it
You will kill it
If that's what you want
But know this
It will teeter a while, before it departs
And when it does, it'll crush you
With the weight of all its dead leaves, dead branches and dead trunk.
With many branches
And many leaves
It'll give you shelter
And give you shade
It'll invite the birds to sing for you
And colour the ground in the fall
You can carve our names on its bark
You can lean on it as you ponder
(what on earth I am talking about)
But abandon or neglect it
You will kill it
If that's what you want
But know this
It will teeter a while, before it departs
And when it does, it'll crush you
With the weight of all its dead leaves, dead branches and dead trunk.
